Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / Shahbaz Khuduoghlu, the editor-in-chief of the Ganun newspaper (Law), a member of the Union of Editors, has reported that the Union has applied to the Baku City Executive Power for allowance to hold a rally of journalists on 3 May.
The journalists protests are believed be against the detention of the editor-in-chief of the Gundalik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan newspapers, Eynulla Fatullayev, the non-disclosure of the assassination of the Monitor journal's editor-in-chief, Elmar Huseynov, and the suppression of the press.
According to Khuduoghlu, the demonstration will begin on 12:00 pm at the Azerbaijan publishing house situated on the Matbuat avenue, and will end near the grave of journalist Elmar Huseynov. A round table dedicated to the 3 May, the World Freedom of Speech Day, will be held at the International Press Centre on 3:30 pm.
A source at the Baku City Executive Power has reported that they have not received any appeal regarding the rally.
