The Correspondence Begins on Complaint of Azerbaijan’s Ex-Minister of Economic Development to European Court

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Correspondence began with regards to the complaint of the ex-Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Farhad Aliyev, to the European Court on Human Rights. The Representative of Azerbaijan to the European Court, Chingiz Askerov, said on 14 May that the European Court requires Azerbaijan to present information regarding this case by August.

The ex-Minister appealed to the European Court with a complaint on contravention of articles 3 (ban on torture), 5 (freedom and immunity rights) and 8 (right for personal respect and respect for family life) of the European Convention on Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms. Askerov said that at present correspondence is being made with the European Court on 30 complaints.

On 15 May the Court on Heinous Crimes will hold a preparatory hearing on the criminal cases of Farhad Aliyev, his brother, former President of the Group of Companies Azpetrol, Rafig Aliyev and other 17 people who are accused in this case for contravening articles 179.3.1, 179.3.2 (appropriation), 192.1, 192.2 (illegal entrepreneurship), 206.4 (contraband), 213.4 (avoidance of tax payment), 308.2 (misuse of authorities), 311.3.1, 311.2, 311.3.3 (accepting bribes), 313 (service falsification) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
