Azerbaijan to Participate in Conference of Education Ministers of Bologne Process Countries

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / Misir Mardanov, the Azerbaijani Education Minister, will meet with European countries in London on 17-18 May as part of the 5th conference of the Education Ministers of the Bologne member-countries.

The Minister stated previously during talks with journalists that the conference will discuss issues of higher education in the country. He stressed that work on the application of principles of the Bologne process is carried out at 8 state universities of Azerbaijan. At present the system covers over 2,400 students and next year it will be increased 4-fold.

The Bologne Declaration aims to establish a unified European higher education system. Azerbaijan has been included in the Declaration on 19 May 2005.

At present the Declaration unites over 40 countries and over 1,500 universities. A graduate holding a Bologna diploma may be employed internationally without any problem. This essentially increases the mobility of students and enables flexibility to changes in the labor market. By 2010 all Azerbaijani universities are expected to join the Bologne process.
