87 Azerbaijani Illegal Fishermen to Face Criminal Proceedings

E.Huseinli / The Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reported on 25 May, that employees of the Department on Expansion and Protection of Resources in the Water Basin at the Ministry is going ahead with criminal proceedings against eighty-seven people involved in illegal fishing.
The sum of the fine appointed by experts equals AZN 980 and the sum of the lawsuit, appointed due to damage to biological resources, totals AZN 21,875.
Ninety law infractions of illegal fishing were registered during 2007.
Ten law infractions were submitted to the regional Courts for investigation.
Eleven boats, 313 fish and seventy-eight fish nets were confiscated during the raids. The special work regime was formed at the mouth of the Kur and Araz Rivers during the sturgeon's spawning season.
The Department periodically employs operative measures in the area water of the Caspian Sea off the Absheron Peninsula, in the Lankaran region, and Astara region of Azerbaijan.
