Centralized Final Exams at Secondary Schools Can be Regarded as Entrance Exams to Universities in the Future: Education Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Misir Mardanov , the Azerbaijani Education Minister, stated on the 6th of June that in the future the centralized final exams at secondary schools will be regarded as entrance exams to universities.

However, to present date, the Azerbaijani society is not yet prepared for this, he noted. The application does not cancel the State Commission Students Admission. "In the contrary, the State Committee, which with the relevant experience, should hold exams," he added. Mardanov did not agree with the ideas, which urged that the centralized exams will open a path to bribery.

Mardanov noted that on the 5th of June the gymnasiums and lycees , as well as 167 secondary schools Imishli , Sumgayit, Khatai Distrcits , and Sabail district of Baku, held centralized test exams. A total of 13,019 school children participated in these exams, while some 474 pupils were not allowed to sit the exams due to unsatisfactory annual school results.

The minister announced that the centralized test exams were successful and the results were defined within 10 hours. The pupils who were not allowed to sit the exams will not be issued certificates and can repeat the exams next year.

The minister noted that the final exams at secondary schools will be coordinated with marks over 11 years, particularly at 11th form.
