Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / If presence of Jews in the mass burial cemetery discovered in the Azerbaijani region of Guba is proved, the Israeli parliament will recognize the slaughter committed by Armenians as a genocide. The Israeli Foreign Ministry will make a statement in this connection, the Director of the Azerbaijani-Israeli Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Evda Abramov, reported on 14 June.
According to Abramov, the issue was discussed during the visit of Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, Yossi Gal to Azerbaijan.
A mass grave was uncovered during the construction of a stadium in the Guba region in the beginning of April 2007. Initial expertise proved that the confusedly-buried people were of Azerbaijani and Jewish origin, slaughtered by Armenians. Initial research revealed the remains of fifty people. The Republican Prosecutor's Office, the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, and the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences will soon begin the second round of research. The number of corpses is supposed to exceed the original revealed figure.
Guba is located 170 km north of Baku.
