Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / Azerbaijan is a transit country in trafficking, what is proved by facts, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights, Rabiyat Aslanova, reported on 14 June in Baku.
According to Aslanova, rare human trafficking cases in Azerbaijan do not give grounds for statements that Azerbaijan is an important link in that chain, Ombudswoman said.
"I do not agree with the statements on illegal human exploitation in Azerbaijan. Foreign citizens come to Azerbaijan in search of jobs. Their jobs depend on the terms of the labour contracts, on correct regulation of the relationships between an employee and an employer. I do not believe in exploitation of human labour in Azerbaijan," Aslanova added.
The US State Department released the report dedicated to fight against trafficking in 2006 and the situation with that field. In that part of the report about Azerbaijan it is noted that the country combats human trafficking. The authors of the report consider Azerbaijan plays the role of a source of trafficking and a transit link in the chain. Cases of exploitation of human labour are indcated in the report in particular.
