Hearing on Lawsuit of Azerbaijani Ranjbar Village’s Residents not Held

Zarbaliyeva / A decision of the residents of the village of Ranjbar of the region of Hajigabul against the BP-Azerbaijani company, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and State Committee on Land and Cartography will be made at Hajigabul Regional Court on 25 June. The chairman of the League for Protection of Labour Rights of Citizens, Sahib Mammadov, reported that the hearing scheduled for 19 June was postponed as the representative of the State Committee on Land and Cartography did not appear in court. The final decision of the court will be made on 25 June.

The residents of the village of Ranjbar accuse BP, who is the operator of the Baku-Supsa and Baku-Novorossiysk pipelines, of preventing some 7,200 landowners from making use of their land for ten years.

The aforementioned pipelines lie through those territories. The landowners were not paid compensation.

The plaintiffs demand compensation. They want to be paid for the damage.

The number of victims exceeds 7,200, though the court registered 15 in the lawsuit.
