Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend E.Huseynli / Azay Guliyev, a member of the Commission on Pardon, announced on 19th of July that a list of convicted persons would be presented to the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev shortly for approval.
A meeting of the Commission due on 20 July is expected to adopt the final list.
Vagif Samedoglu, another member of the Commission, stated that so far the commission has considered around 100 appeals. Samedoglu noted that the decision to pardon seven arrested Azerbaijani journalists is under the Azerbaijani President's authority. Samedoglu stated that prior to submitting the list, the Commission will consider several more appeals.
To date over 40 pardon decrees involving 4,378 people have been signed in Azerbaijan.
