Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Issues concerning religion and ethnic tolerance were discussed at the international scientific-practical conference of Interaction between press and ethnic groups in the US, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan in New York reported.
The conference was organized by the Jewish Cultural Centre in the US. Attending the conference were representatives of public organizations, scientists and journalists from the US, Azerbaijan, Israel and Russia. The main issues for consideration included inter-religious discussions, impact of press on formation of national and ethnic communities, tolerance and cooperation amongst the Russian-speaking Jews residing in North America, as well as amongst the Caucasus Jews from Krasnoya Slaboda village of Azerbaijan, the role of culture among ethnic groups and many other issues.
Azerbaijani Jews spoke about interaction of the Caucasus Jewish from Krasnoya Slaboda with other ethnic groups, as well as on the role of press and development of discussions between Islam and Judaic religions.
Agshin Mehtiyev, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan in the UN, commented on the importance of measures directed towards the development of tolerance between religions and ethnic groups.
The resolution was adopted at the end of the conference. The participants of the conference were called to observe the points of the declaration on principals of tolerance, passed in 1995.
