Uzbekistan will accelerate work on accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), reads the draft state program for 2018 "Year of active entrepreneurship, innovative ideas and technologies".

The document implies the preparation of proposals on bringing the legislation of Uzbekistan in line with the norms of the organization. To this end, a new composition of the interdepartmental commission should be approved, which will deal with questions of accession to the WTO. As a rule, it implies the need for a large number of changes and reforms in the country.

The set of measures also stipulates an assessment of the consequences of membership in the organization and the preparation of proposals for institutional reforms.

The resumption of work on accession to the WTO last November was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his trip to South Korea. The country also agreed to work with South Korea and the US in this regard.

The World Trade Organization is an international organization established in 1995 with the aim of liberalizing international trade and regulating trade and political relations among Member States. The WTO is responsible for the development and implementation of new trade agreements, and also monitors compliance by members of the organization with all agreements signed by most countries of the world and ratified by their parliaments.
