At the government meeting in Turkmenistan a report was read out regarding preparations for the opening of the international sea port in Turkmenbashi City, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Deputy Prime Minister Manmathan Kakaev said at the meeting that the freight and ferry terminals, equipped with modern equipment and advanced technology, are well suited for providing a high level of port services.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on organizational and technical measures for the effective operation of the maritime and functional features of the port facility and its management systems.

"The project of the international seaport can be called historically significant without exaggeration, since its implementation brings our country to a new stage of relations, promoting full-scale integration into the international system of economic relations, increasing the role of Turkmenistan as an important transit center," the head of state was quoted as saying.

It is expected that the use of various routes will significantly increase the volume of trade, will contribute to the expansion of passenger traffic by sea, and will affect the development of the national tourist zone "Avaza" due to the increase in the number of tourists from neighboring Caspian states.

Earlier it was reported that the opening ceremony of the seaport in the Peri-Caspian Turkmenbashi City is scheduled for May 2, 2018.

The seaside complex will include a common loading terminal, a bulk cargo terminal, as well as shipbuilding and ship repair dockyards.

The project, estimated at $ 1.5 billion, is implemented by the Turkish company “Gap inşaat”.

The annual capacity of the port will be 17-18 million tons. Together with the previously operating port, this figure will be 25-26 million tons.
