Kazakhstan bans import of Uzbek pomegranate

Kazakhstan introduced a temporary ban on the import of Uzbek pomegranate into the country since February 19, Trend reports with reference to the press service Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture.

Kazakhstan took restrictive measures after cases of import of quarantine pests. It was specified that recently inspectors have identified pests in berries.

Over the last month of this year, Kazakhstan has revealed two facts of supplies from Uzbek territory of pomegranates infected with quarantine objects.

Worm colonies cause plants to dry out. With a strong infection, the fruits are stiffened, their taste deteriorates and their weight decreases.

Kazakhstan is one of the main partners of Uzbekistan in trade of agricultural products. Kazakhstan is among the top five largest partner countries of Uzbekistan in total imports. In addition, 37 Kazakh enterprises are operating in Uzbekistan.

Recently, 33 livestock enterprises in Kazakhstan have confirmed the right to export livestock products to Uzbekistan.

Kazakh enterprises are ready to export 18,000 tons of red meat to Uzbekistan, as well as 500 tons of poultry products.

Kazakhstan exported 3.95 million tons (27 percent more than in 2017) of the agro-industrial complex worth $634 million (34.5 percent more than in 2017) to Uzbekistan last year.

In 2018, exports of livestock products to Uzbekistan increased almost 20 times compared with 2017.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan is interested in purchasing two million tons of oil from Kazakhstan annually.
