Volume of cargo transshipment at Azerbaijan's Astara terminal revealed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 19

The total cargo transshipment through Astara terminal in the south of Azerbaijan amounted to 166,000 tons from January through April 2020, which is 50 percent more than the same period of last year (110,000 tons from January through April 2019), Spokesman for ADY Express Ilham Abdulov told Trend on May 19.

According to him, out of 166,000 tons of cargo, the share of transit accounted for 145,000 tons, and 21,000 tons of the transshipped cargo fell on import into Azerbaijan.

“On average, transshipment of cargo per day is 1,640 tons, which is 18 percent higher than in 2019 (1,339 tons per day),” Abdulov said.

“Most of the handled goods fell on wood and its products, that is, building materials. Besides, grain products such as barley, wheat and other grain crops can be also related to the most transported goods through the Astara terminal,” Abdulov said.

About 78,000 tons (47 percent) of cargo was handled from the Astara terminal, and 88,000 tons (53 percent) of cargo - to this terminal.

In 2019, ADY Express handled almost 400,000 tons of cargo, and from 2018 through 2019, nearly 700,000 tons of cargo were handled via the terminal.
