Countries of Central Asia are jointly preparing a five-sided interstate document on friendship, good neighborliness, and cooperation for the development of Central Asia in the 21st century, Trend reports with reference to the Pravda Vostoka newspaper.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, during the interview with the newspaper.

According to him, one of the important tasks of Uzbekistan's foreign policy is to create a zone of peace, stability, and security around the country. According to the Minister, security in the region is the main condition for sustainable development.

Kamilov noted that for the past three years the exchange of visits at the highest level with all countries of the region took place, and the political communication between the leaders of the region has become regular, permanent, and trustworthy.

"As a result, colossal changes for the betterment in the relations of Uzbekistan with all countries of the region have taken place in a historically short period. Many rather acute problems, existed in the relations of Uzbekistan with its neighbors until 2016, have been overcome following the strengthening of open and confidential political dialogue of the leaders of the region. Personal trust between the presidents has improved," stated the Foreign Minister.

Trade and economic relations with neighboring countries are also developing. Following the results of 2019, Uzbekistan increased trade turnover with neighboring countries to $5.2 billion.

In the first half of 2020, despite the pandemic, the total volume of Uzbekistan's trade with all Central Asian countries was $2.1 billion.
