BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 9

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The post-Soviet countries need to switch to a completely new model of economic interaction, Elshad Mammadov, deputy director of the Russian School of Economics, professor at the Azerbaijan University of Economics, told Trend.

According to Mammadov, after the settlement of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the countries of the region will need to strengthen economic cooperation with an emphasis on the development of high-tech areas.

"In the short term, we can expect a decrease in the volume of money transfers from Russia and Ukraine to the CIS countries, and in the long term, the post-Soviet countries will be able to form a single economic space," he said.

Besides, according to the expert, these countries will be able to implement joint investment projects, deepen technological, industrial, transport and logistics cooperation.

"This type of interaction should lead to a sharp increase in business activity in the region and contribute to the growth of remittances between the CIS countries,” Mammadov noted.

“It’s also extremely important to observe economic integration in the region, because otherwise it can lead to destitution and a national crisis of the economies. I believe that the achievement these goals will contribute to strengthening economic activity in the CIS countries," added the expert.
