BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. The volume of refunds, provided by the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan, to the country's state budget in criminal cases opened on the facts of tax crimes decreased from January through September 2022, Trend reports on October 25.

According to the service, this figure amounted to 23.2 million manat ($13.6 million) against 30.7 million manat ($18.06 million) in the first nine months of 2021.

From January through September of this year, 435 criminal cases were opened (versus 521 criminal cases in the same period of last year) on facts of tax evasion and illegal business. For 132 criminal cases (versus 229 in 9M2021), the preliminary investigation was completed.

In connection with the full reimbursement of tax debts, 62 cases were closed, and 11.9 million manat ($7 million) were returned to the state budget.

Besides, in the first nine months of 2022, 197 control measures were taken in connection with 114 taxpayers to ensure their compliance with legislation in the field of production, import, wholesale and retail sales.

As a result of the control measures, 271 violations were revealed, financial sanctions in the amount of 1.9 million manat ($1.12 million) were applied, and 1.2 million manat ($710,000) was collected on tax debts.
