ACWA Power company(Saudi Arabia) has started first stage of the project on the construction of thermal power plant (TPP) in Sirdarya region of Uzbekistan under company's investment program, Trend reports with reference to Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
The first stage includes soil exploration works to be carry out prior to the construction. The new plant will be erected near active Sirdarya TPP, and its efficiency will be 1.7 times higher than that of Sirdarya TPP thanks to the equipment with modern combined cycle gas turbine units.
According to the ministry, the total capacity of the new TPP will be 1,250-1,500 MW. Two combined cycles plants will be installed, which are almost twice as efficient as the power units of the Sirdarya TPP.
The investor company uses the newest models of units with the efficiency of more than 60 percent, capable of producing 10 billion kWh of electricity per year.
The construction of a new thermal power plant is also financed by other private investors, and the generated electricity is sold under a long-term contract.
Discussion of the investment project took place at the meeting of Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov with a visiting delegation headed by Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia Abid bin Abdullah al-Saadoun on February 7, 2020.
ACWA Power is a developer, investor, co-owner and operator of a portfolio of 56 electricity and desalination plants. The company carries out activities in 12 countries, including the regions of the Middle East, North Africa, South Africa and Southeast Asia.
The company’s investment portfolio exceeds $47 billion, and the total production capacity is 31 gW of electricity and 5.3 million cubic meters of desalinated water.
