Iran discloses volume of roads to be commissioned

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25

It was decided to put into operation 510-kilometers controlled-access highways during the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Deputy Minister of Iran's Roads and Urban Development, and the CEO of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company Kheirollah Khademi said, Trend reports citing ISNA.

Khademi emphasized that at present, 1,200 kilometers of controlled-access highways are being built in Iran.

Khademi added that all these controlled-access highways will be commissioned by the end of current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 20, 2021).

The deputy minister said that about 850 km of highways are built in Iran every year.

"If the funds allocated for the construction of these highways are increased in the current Iranian year, it will be possible to put into operation 1,250 kilometers of highways by end of the current year," he said.

The CEO noted that at present, 7,800 km of highways are being built in Iran.

According to Khademi, currently, Iran's Gorgan-Bojnurd, Mashhad-South Khorasan, Bandar Abbas-Bushehr, Bushehr-Khuzestan, Khuzestan-Sistan and Baluchestan, Khash-Zahedan, Zahedan-Zabol, Zahedan-Kerman highways are under construction.
