The Government of Uzbekistan aims to improve water use efficiency in the Fergana region, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan National News Agency.
A total of $50 million has been allocated to ensure the rational use of water and the introduction of cost-effective technologies in water supply in the region.
The technology of drip irrigation is applied in many large farms in the region. With the help of modern equipment, 50 hectares of crops are irrigated at the farms.
Irrigation works with the use of economic technologies can reduce water consumption by up to 40 percent and electricity consumption by up to 30 percent.
In 2021, the government plans to introduce water-saving technologies on 30,200 hectares of sown areas of Fergana, the message said.
Earlier, The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on measures of state support to work on water supply to homestead lands and land areas not used in agriculture in regions with difficult water supply conditions.
According to resolution, the government will allocate 100,000 soum (almost $10) for each meter of well, but no more than 50 million soum ($4,870) in total, and will pay up to 70 percent of the costs for drilling and commissioning of well for irrigation, but no more than 120 million soum ($11,689).
