Uzbekistan plans to increase number of cinemas following the end of 2020

The government of Uzbekistan plans to complete the construction of 15 cinemas with a total capacity of 4,000 seats by the end of 2020, Trend reports citing the National Uzbekkino Agency.

The growth of distribution and screening of films in cinemas and on streaming platforms is one of the Agency's priorities, the report says.

Funds amounting to about 60 billion soum ($5.8 million) have been allocated for the construction of these facilities.

The Agency is working with the mayors to restore the famous cinemas in Uzbekistan, such as the Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace, the Divanov Cinema in Khorezm, Premier Hall in Tashkent, as well as the Sharq Yulduzi cinema in Samarkand.

Renovation of these cinemas is one of the priorities, which is implemented by the Agency with the involvement of partners from the public and private sectors of Uzbekistan, the message said.

Earlier, Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement of Uzbekistan’s Uchtepa District (Tashkent city) put Vatan cinema at an online auction with a starting price of 19 billion soum ($1.8 million)
