The construction of the Rasht-Astara railway in northern Iran within the North-South corridor will be completed in 4 years at best, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami told journalists, Trend reports citing the IRNA.
According to him, as part of the plan on the Rasht-Astara railway, a part of the areas where the railway will be has started to be purchased from citizens since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020). Work has already begun on the construction of a railway line in those areas.
Eslami added that a large part of the 160 km long railway line passes through productive areas. Therefore, efforts have been made to resolve the issue differently.
The minister noted that about 80 km of this railway line will be built through a bridge or tunnel, and 80 km – on land.
As reported, Iran's Rasht-Astara railway has not yet been built within the North-South Corridor. In other areas, there is a railway line.
