Capacity of Georgian Batumi International Airport doubles

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 26

The capacity of Georgian Batumi International Airport has doubled, it will be able to serve 1.2 million passengers in a year, said Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.

He made the remark at the opening ceremony of the new airport terminal.

Construction work at the airport began in June 2020 and was completed in six months. The project cost was $17 million. Up to 300 local residents were employed.

The Georgian PM thanked TAV Georgia for the implementation of an important project and large investment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, today direct flights from Batumi to Israel have already begun. Batumi airport also receives flights from Turkey every day.

“This large-scale project is also important due to the fact that in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis, international investors, in particular, TAV Georgia, which manages the Batumi International Airport, additionally made an investment in our country, the volume of which amounts to $17 million,” Garibashvili said.

The prime minister believes that the period of the pandemic has been maximized to improve the transport and logistics infrastructure of the airport.
