Azerbaijani Government Consider New Project on Customs Code

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The Task Group on new customs code of Azerbaijan submitted the final variant of the project to the Cabinet of Ministers. Sanan Mukhtarov, the head of the Task Group and State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, said.

The new project of the code consists of two divisions, general and specific issues. The general division includes customs bodies work, their functions and obligations, system of customs services, juridical status of customs bodies, state and social defence and others.

The specific division includes transport of commodities, customs procedures, tariffs, payments, information technologies in customs bodies and many others.

The issues on information security, computerized systems of customs bodies, check, injection of changes, cancellation of short declarations on import, customs procedures, free zones, customs audits and pother issues were included into the code.

The new customs code was developed within the framework of the project "Modernization of the Customs System in Azerbaijan" which is financed at the expense of the European Commission and implemented by UNDP.

According to the foreign experts, the new code will significantly affect the integration of Azerbaijan into Europe, ensure transparency, efficiency of attracting foreign investments into the country and facilitate the customs procedures.

The first Customs Code of Azerbaijan was adopted in 1997.
