( RIA Novosti ) - The leaders of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan signed Saturday a package of agreements on the legal basis of the Customs Union in Dushanbe.
The agreements stipulate the formation of a customs union commission, a common customs area, and a number of regulations on the legal framework of the union, including the order of membership.
"We have reached a consensus, which answers to the interests of our countries," Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the session of the Intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian Economic Community in Tajikistan.
The talks at the session also focused on the economic integration and energy cooperation, as well as on a number of financial issues.
Sergei Prikhodko, a Russian presidential aide, said other important documents on the issue of the customs union will be signed at the session of heads of Eurasec states in December.
Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, who is currently hosting the summit, said Tajikistan was interested in joining the Customs Union, which he called a historic step.
"We will try to join [the union] in the near future. We are coming to it," he said.
Eurasec is an international economic organization, consisting of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
