Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / The Azerbaijani Republican Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology started spot checks in Baku poultry enterprises because of the start of the bird migration season which may bring bird flu to Azerbaijan.
Spot checks are now being carried in Baku's Sabunchu district, but will also cover Azizbeyov, Absheron and Yasamal districts. They will last till the end of October, the head of the Centre's Hygiene & Nutrition Department, Imran Abdullayev, said on 10 October.
The raids will reveal whether poultry and poultry product maintenance conditions meet with sanitary norms. A total of 15 poultry manufacturers in Baku will be checked.
According to Abdullayev, spot checks will also take place in the Azerbaijani regions.
In the case of shortcomings or violations in the law, administrative norms, such as fines or suspension of operation, will be applied, he said.
