Azerbaijani Government to Increase Living-Wage

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr U. Ismayilova / The Azerbaijani Government intends to increase the living-wage to AZN 70 in 2008, MP Hadi Rajabli, the head of Parliamentary Commission on Social Policy, said on 11 October.

"The purpose of the Azerbaijani Government is to bring the living-wage close to minimum wage which is planned to be increased to AZN 80- 90 in 2008," the MP said.

The minimum wage in 2007 started at AZN 50.

The minimum wage approved by the Cabinet for the second half of 2007 is AZN 64.

According to the Confederation of Azerbaijani Trade Unions, at the beginning of July the cost of a monthly consumer basket made up AZN 96 per person and for capable of working people its is AZN 107.
