UNIDO Delegation to Visit Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S. Babayeva / The delegation of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will visit Baku by the end of this year, said the Head of the International Relations Department of Azerbaijan's State Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Patenting, Sabir Abdullayev, on 25 October.

According to him, the visit of the specialists to Baku is aimed at discussing the conditions of the realization of the project on raising the competitiveness of commodities produced in Azerbaijan.

The project envisages bringing Azerbaijan legislation regarding metrology and assessment into conformity with international norms. In addition, the project implies unifying national legislation on this sphere with several international demands, applying several European instructions, and establishing standardization, metrology and patenting centers for training staff, as well as laboratories for assessing quality of several exported commodities (agricultural, chemical, metallurgical, and other products).

"Talks are being held with UNIDO with regards to the three-year project," Abdullayev said. The cost of the project is $2.5mln.
