Bread Price Increases in Azerbaijani Regions

Azerbaijan, Salyan /corr. Trend E.Mammadov / Azerbaijani Salyan-Chorek JSC (Salyan-Bread) increased the prices for the bread supplied to the shops of Azerbaijan's district of Salyan from AZN 0.20 to AZN 0.30. The Director of Salyan-Chorek, Beybala Manafov, said that raising the prices is linked with the increasing of bread's weight from 400g to 500g.

"In addition, the price of the 50kg bag of the flour has reached AZN 24, as well as price of oil used for preparing the bread raised from AZN 0.70 to AZN 1," Manafov said.

Depending on their quality, the prices of grains increased from AZN 30-40 to AZN 40-50.

Bread price increase is observed in Azerbaijan's district of Tovuz as well. On 21 October the bread price increased from AZN 0.20 to AZN 0.25. "The bread prices increased due to AZN 2 price raise for flour," said the sellers of bread and floury products in Tovuz who were questioned by Trend . The price of 40kg bag of flour in the district on 30 October amounted to AZN 20, but from 31 October - AZN 22.

The price increase for bread and floury products has been observed in the Country for already two months. The experts say that the bread price increases due to the grain deficit and increase of grain price in the grain exporting countries.

Azerbaijan's annual grain demand makes up 3mln tons of which 1mln tons are imported mainly from Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

The average price of the 500g bread in Baku amounts to AZN 0.30.
