Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend A.Badalova / The number of subway stations in Baku will be increased from the current 20 to 65, Tagi Ahmadov, the head of Baku Metro, said on 6 November. The technical projects of two lines have developed.
According to Ahmadov, in future it is planning to construct lines to Patamdart, Sumgayit, Garachukhur, and also to Bakikhanov village. Ahmadov does not exclude a line can be built to the international Airport Heydar Aliyev.
Ahmadov said that the construction of the line to Sumgayit is not the matter of near future.
"Баку-Сумгаит является первостепенной дорогой Азербайджана. И проведение линии метро на этой дороге обязательно. Но она не будет проведена в течение ближайших 3-5 лет", - сказал Ахмедов.
"The Baku-Sumgayit is the urgent road of Azerbaijan and it is necessary to build it. It will be built more probably over the subsequent 3-5 years," Ahmadov said.
