Date of Beginning Construction of Georgian Section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Confirmed

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr Trend I.Khalilova / The Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Artur Rasizade, said at the meeting with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Sergey Stanishevm, on 12 November that the construction of the Georgian section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will begin in November.

Rasizade considers that despite instable situation in Georgia the opening ceremony will take place this month.

According to him, constructing this railway stretch and railway tunnel under Bosporus will assist in expanding co-operation on this type of transportation between Baku and Sophia. "Therefore, these projects assume international significance," Rasizade said.

A $200mln credit will be allocated to the Georgian Government by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan for the construction of the Georgian section of route. More than $280mln has been allocated for the Marabda-Kars Railway LLC.

The Turkish company, Yuksel Domonik completed its preparations of technical documents, including its feasibility study in June.
