State Veterinary Service of Azerbaijan Refutes Information on Death of Migrant Birds

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / The State Veterinary Service at the Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan refutes the information of several sources of media that carcasses of migrant birds have been discovered in the northern coast of Apsheron Peninsula.

Today the employees of Baku City Veterinary Department examined the whole territory of the Peninsula, but died birds were not found, a source stated in the State Service.

The flow of the migrant birds began recently and its most active period falls on December.

"Currently there is not bird flu in Azerbaijan and the situation is assessed as stable," the same source stated.

This year the State Service carried out ten monitoring exercises. None of them revealed the virus. The next (11th) monitoring to uncover bird flu in Azerbaijan will commence on 19 November and will last for a week.

Prohibition of hunting, use and sale of wild birds in Azerbaijan still retains effect. All Azerbaijani border veterinary check points work with medium security in order to prevent spread of bird flu.
