Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Tariff Council postponed its meeting which was scheduled for 15 November to the end of next week, the chairman of the Tariff Council, who is also the Economic Development Minister, Heydar Babayev said on 15 November.

According to Babayev, the meeting will focus on three issues - suggestions from the State Concern AZAL (Azerbaijani Airlines) to change the prices for internal flights, from the Emergency Situations Ministry to introduce new tariffs on transportation of dangerous cargos, and from the State Customs Committee to verify the quality and safety of cargos imported to Azerbaijan.

AZAL suggests increasing the prices for Baku-Ganja, Baku-Zagatala, Baku-Lankaran, Baku-Nakhchivan, and Ganja-Nakhchivan routes. When making decision on the suggestions, the Council will take into account availability of alternative routes in the directions, as besides air transport, railway and automobile communication is also available. Flights to Nakhchivan from Baku are implemented only from Baku, and the newly opened route via Iran will not be taken into account, as it is too long.

On 1 November, AZAL increased prices for all international flights. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) included Azerbaijan along with other CIS countries to European area and that caused the rise in prices. In accordance with requirements of the organizations, the tickets should be sold in euro.

The State Customs Committee suggests construction of a new laboratory to verify the quality and safety of the goods brought to Azerbaijan.

The Emergency Ministry's suggestion to introduce new tariffs on dangerous cargo was caused by the Cabinet's order on establishment of regulations on dangerous cargo transportation, which charged Emergency Situations Ministry with regulating such cargo.
