Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / The head of the State Service on control over the consumer market of Azerbaijan, Khalig Mammadov, signed a memorandum on construction of a diagnostic centre to control foodstuffs with the Lithuanian Director General, Marek Samokhvalov.

Mammadov said that the goal of the memorandum is to construct a laboratory to control the quality of foodstuffs which will meet all international standards.

There is not a laboratory in Azerbaijan that meets international standards. Therefore, the Service usually faces problems during checks.

The date and sum for construction of the centre will be known in 2008 after ratification of the State budget. The State Service on control of food quality at the Ministry of Economic Development appealed to the Government to allocate funds for the construction of the laboratory.

Such laboratories there are in Azerbaijan's cities of Baku, Nakhchivan, Ganja, Khachmaz, Jalilabad and Shaki.
