Inflation Rate in Azerbaijan in 2008 to Constitute 30% - Economic Research Centre’s Expert

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / Inflation rate in Azerbaijan will make up about 30% in 2008, Vusal Gasimli, Deputy Chairman of NGO Economic Research Centre, said on 29 November.

"The inflation rate will make up 25% by the end of 2007," Gasimli said.

According to calculation of the Centre, the price of sunflower-seed oil increased by 37.5%, corn oil -by 31.25%, sold - by 50% and bread - by 20% from 15 October to 15 November.

According to Gasimli, the foreign factors affect on increase of inflation rate in the country. The latest increase of prices in foodstuffs in the world market affected on imported products.

The increase of prices in foodstuff in world market made up 30%.

Gasimli said that increase of prices in world market is not the only problem which affect on increase of inflation rate in the country. Another far important factor is wrong account of imported commodities to the country.

The key import-countries to Azerbaijan are Iran, Turkey and Russia.

The Iranian State Statistic Committee calculated that Iran exported foodstuff in the amount of $310mln in 2005. However, the Azerbaijani State Statistic Committee reported the figure constituted $86mln.

The Russian State Statistic Committee reported the export between Russia and Azerbaijan from January to September of 2007 amount to $922mln, but the Azerbaijani State Statistic Committee reported the figure on $697mln.

The Turkish State Statistic Committee reported the expert between Turkey and Azerbaijan for nine months 2007 made up $705mln, but the Azerbaijani State Statistic Committee reported the figure on $394mln.
