Trilateral Agreement Signed on Construction of New Railway to Persian Gulf

Kazakhstan, Astana / Trend corr.К.Konirova / A trilateral agreement between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran was signed on 1 December on construction of a railway Uzen ( Kazakhstan) - Kizilkaya - Barakat - Atrak( Turkmenistan) - Gorgan ( Iran).

The railway line is one of the key transit corridors from the north to south. Implementation of the project will increase transit capacity of Kazakhstan and joins Kazakhstan with Iran and with Persian gulf countries.

The construction of the new railway enables to optimize the route of oil products from the Caspian Sea to the Middle East.

The implementation of the project will positively affect on transit potential of Kazakhstan. The estimated volume of transported products will amount to 5.5mln tons.

The length of the road is 670km. The cost of the project is $676mln.
