Azerbaijan Transport Ministry Forecasts Increase in the Number of Automobiles in Baku

Aliyev / The Azerbaijan Transport Ministry developed a project on the extension of 'the Heydar Aliyev Ave', said Musa Panahov, the Deputy Transport Minister on 17 December. According to Panahov, the two roads running parallel to each other, and the highway merging them again near Montin settlement, creates the difficulties for the traffic. The new tunnels are expected to be constructed under the bridge for the extension of the roads. Moreover, the bridge will also be widened.
A tunnel is planned to be constructed at the intersection of the Heydar Aliyev Ave and the Aga Neymatulla St, which faces the great traffic problems. The tunnel will be constructed in the direction of the Aga Neymatulla St, the Deputy Minister said. The highway going towards the airport will also be extended.
By October 2008, the work is expected to be complete. The number of strips in the highways running to the Sabunchu Circle will be increased to 12, and the highway running from the Sabunchu Circle to the airport will contain 8 strips, Panahov said. The construction of the new bridges will continue in the future as well, as the traffic in Baku will be increasing annually. According to the forecasts of the Ministry, within the 3 years the traffic in Baku will increase by 300,000 vehicles, he said.
