Azerbaijan to Decline Grain Import – Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / The Azerbaijani Government intends completely decline grain import by 2010, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov, said.

" Azerbaijan will be able completely decline grain import if the harvest rate in 2009 and 2010 will be like in 2007, the Minister said.

Azerbaijan imports grain mainly from Russia, Turkey and Kazakhstan. The yearly need in grain in the country is 3mln tons. The yearly demand of Azerbaijan in bread grain is 1.53mln tons.

According to Minister, grain was planted on 880,340 hectare and bread grain on 603,960 hectare.

In 2008 Azerbaijan enable to increase grain store but cannot suspend import.

The current snow in the country forecasts rich harvest in 2008.
