( dpa )- German carmaker Opel hopes that a brand new slogan will help boost the marque's flagging domestic sales.
" Entdecke Opel " (Discover Opel ) will be introduced in Germany from December 25 and backed by a huge advertising campaign. It replaces the company's former motto which translated as "fresh ideas for better cars".
Opel , which is owned by US car giant General Motors, is the third major carmaker in Germany after Ford "Feel the Difference" and Volkswagen " Das Auto" (the automobile) to have recently revamped its slogan.
"Our products have improved much faster than people realise ", Opel's marketing chief Alain Visser told the magazine auto motor und sport. "We want customers to discover this for themselves".
In English-speaking countries the "Discover Opel " slogan will be introduced from Spring 2008, shortly before the debut of the Insignia saloon, the long-awaited replacement for the mid-range Vectra .
Slogans or claims, as they are known by advertisers, are a key instrument in generating car sales. Some like Audi's German " Vorsprung durch Technik " (progress through technology) or French manufacturer Renault's " createur d'automobiles " have become world famous.
