Gulf Air orders 16 Boeing 787s, continues talks with Airbus

( dpa )- Bahrain-based Gulf Air has ordered 16 new 787 Dreamliners in a deal with US aircraft maker Boeing, Gulf Air chief executive Mahmoud al- Kouheji said Sunday.

At list price, the long-range, fuel-efficient airliners would cost a combined 4 billion dollars.

The contract was signed Saturday, the airline announced from Manama, Bahrain. The deal gives Gulf Air an option to buy eight additional Dreamliners .

Gulf Air remains in talks with Airbus, Boeing's European-based rival, for eight A320s, al- Kouheji said. A decision on a possible Airbus purchase is expected by March, he said.
