( dpa )- Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi on Wednesday discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation with US Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman , who arrived earlier in the day on a two-day visit to Jordan, according to an official statement.

"The discussions focused on means of boosting bilateral ties particularly in the sphere of energy," the statement said.

"The prime minister expressed Jordan's interest in making benefit from the US experiment, particularly the research conducted by the US Energy Department in the field of energy conservation and other technologies pertaining to uses of energy," it added.

Dahabi's government was facing an expanding oil bill and a growing public budget deficit which economists believed would prompt the cabinet to adopt fresh fuel price hikes in the coming few weeks.
