Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / The first meeting of the Azerbaijani-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economy and humanitarian cooperation began in Ashgabat on 17 January.
Relations between the two countries were broken up for a long period of time. All directions of economic cooperation particularly, in the oil and gas sector will be discussed during the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting includes the regulation of the Azerbaijani debt to Turkmenistan, as well as the negotiations which were restored in 2007. Negotiation between both countries was established in 1991 and 1992. The volume of the debt will be defined during the meeting. Turkmenistan insists on increasing the debt by three times. Baku considers that the country has $18mln of debt for purchase of the Turkmen gas. However, Turkmenistan insists that there is $56mln of debt, taking into consideration the accumulated percentages.
Yagub Eyubov, the first Vice Premier, was appointed as chairman of the national part of the commission, Khidir Saparliyev, the Vice Premier of Kazakhstan, was appointed the co-chairman of the National composition of the commission. The National composition of the commission was established by the issue of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev from 20 June 2007.
