Israel to allow fuel into Gaza

( dpa )- An Israeli military official said Monday evening that it will allow industrial diesel into the Gaza Strip the next morning.

Shadi Yassin , a spokesman for the Israeli Coordination & Liaison Administration in Gaza, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that the fuel would allow the enclave's power plant to resume production.

On Sunday night the power plant stopped producing power, saying it had run out of fuel, and subsequent power cuts in the Gaza Strip have affected many aspects of daily life, including supplies of drinking water and treatment of waste water.

The depletion of fuel supplies, plant officials said, was the result of an Israeli closure placed on its crossings with Gaza, and prevented the import of fuel.
