( dpa ) - The meeting of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in Berlin would not stop Iran's nuclear drive, Iranian government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said Tuesday.
"The Iranian nation moves towards realization of its (nuclear) aims within a legal and legitimate framework and even a new UN resolution would not change this drive," official news agency IRNA quoted the spokesman as saying.
While referring to the six states' meeting Tuesday in Berlin, Elham said there was no justification for involving the United Nations Security Council in the Iranian nuclear case.
He added that the world powers should not weaken the status of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and allow the UN nuclear watchdog to deal as the main relevant international body with the Iranian dossier.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini had on Monday predicted that the Berlin meeting would come to nothing and warned the West against further complicating the issue by politicizing it.
The Islamic state insists it is enriching uranium for civilian energy needs and denies it wants to develop nuclear weapons.
