Ukraine, Kiev, 22 January / Trend corr. Z.Novosvitski / The possibility of Ukraine joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in February 2008 is 80%, Igor Burakovski, the director of the Economic Research and Political Consultations Institute, stated.
Ukraine hopes that the Task Group will approve the document on Kiev joining the organization on 25 January. The decision will be discussed during the meeting of WTO General Council in the first quarter of February.
"I believe that there are no obstacles for the WTO General Council to deny the approval of the report developed by the Task Group on Ukraine joining the organization while an export agreement was achieved between Ukraine and European Union," Burakovski stated to Trend . Later the Ukrainian Parliament would ratify an agreement on joining WTO. "The process will succeed if no political forces within the country attempt to hinder it," Burakovski noted.
Viktor Yushenko, the Ukrainian President, expressed his confidence during the meeting of the National Security and Defence Council on 18 January that the WTO General Council would make the decision for Ukraine to join the WTO.
