List of Azerbaijani Small Towns Reduced in IBD Water Project

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 January / corr. Trend I. Khalilova / The Islamic Bank of Development (IBD) has requested Azerbaijani Government to submit a detailed assessment on the project of the restoration of the water supply system in three small towns. The assessment will be sent by Azersu Joint Stick Company in February, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan said.

Though the project was expected to include six small cities, three regions were later excluded (Dashkesen, Gadabak, Devechi) and may be included in the water projects which can be financed by the other international organizations.

The IBD project includes Agjabadi, Balakan and Beylagan. The bank will allocate a maximum of $30-40 mln.

The water project is realized by the new program of cooperation with IBD for 2007-2009 and is expected to be financed in the 2007 fiscal year which will end in April. The Azerbaijani government hopes that it will be able to use the resources in the bank's budget.

Three projects are expected to be submitted to the bank in the 2007 fiscal year to obtain soft and commercial credit and technical assistance. In addition to the water project, the program also includes the reconstruction of the highway Bahram-Tepe and a grant for a feasibility study of the project of the Mil-Karabagh collector.

The three-year term program covers 11 projects with an initial cost o $220 mln.
