German business confidence tipped to fall after share slump

( dpa ) - German business confidence slowed again in January, a key survey to be released Thursday is forecast to show, after a torrid round of trading on global stock markets fuelled fears of a global economic crisis.

Analysts predict the Munich-based ifo economic institute's monthly index of 7,000 German executives will show business confidence sliding to 102.2 points this month on the back of worries that the shakeout in the American housing market could tip the giant US economy into recession.

The ifo's January monthly reading compared to 103 in December with the closely watched index likely to set the stage for the publication this week of surveys which are expected to also point to a more pessimistic economic mood emerging across the 15-member eurozone.
