( dpa )- Hong Kong shares surged by more than 5 per cent in the opening minutes of trading Friday, after one of the most volatile weeks in the market's history.
An hour after opening, the Hang Seng Index had fallen back slightly to 24,618.1 points, up 1,078.83 points - or 4.58 per cent - on Thursday's close. Turnover was 39 billion Hong Kong dollars.
Hong Kong shares fell 2.29 per cent Thursday after a spectacular recovery Wednesday which saw the index surge 10.72 per cent after an interest cut by the US Federal Reserve.
