( dpa ) - The price for oil produced by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries continued to rise ahead of an OPEC meeting on Friday.

One barrel ( 159 litres) of crude from the OPEC price basket of 12 important brands stood at 88.77 dollars on Wednesday, up 38 cents from the previous day, the OPEC Secretariat said on Thursday.

No changes in current production quotas are expected for Friday's meeting. OPEC's output accounts for about 40 per cent of the world's oil production.
