Georgia to Issue Eurobonds and Spent Income on Construction of Gas-holder

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N. Kirtskhalia / Georgia plans to issue Eurobonds worth of $500 mln. Lado Gurgenidzeh, the candidate of to the post of prime minister stated in parliament on 31 January. He expressed his hope that the bonds would be issued by April. "Currently the Government holds talks with 6 banks including Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, UBS, and Merrill Lynch. The government will choose two banks which will deal with the issue of the Eurobonds," the candidate for the post of prime minister said.

The changes to the Constitution are required for this purpose and the Ministry of Finance plans to submit the relevant amendments to the parliament, Gurgenidzeh said. The part of the income from the issue of the Eurobonds will be directed to the construction of the gas-holder of the natural gas in Georgia. "The other part of the income can be spent on the high-voltage transmission facilities which will help Georgia to increase the export of the electricity from Georgia to Turkey," he said.
